Mushroom Cultivation Master Class for Beginners
Come and join Darren Springer for his cultivating gourmet mushroom master class (This will be held live and online). Darren will lead a master class exploring the unique qualities of mushrooms and mycelium, the crucial living network that supports our growing environments. In this master class Darren will give you the chance to learn more about the processes behind gourmet mushroom cultivation and the conditions they need to thrive.
In this workshop, Darren shares his practical tips and experience to help you successfully grow mushrooms at home and will answer any questions on cultivation. This session is open to all, no previous experience or expertise necessary. All participants will be given access to course notes for the workshop after the session. You will be sent instructions how to receive this and the Zoom link to join in a confirmation email.
Darren Springer is mycologist-in-residence at Somerset House. Alongside leading the mushroom growing and workshops at Somerset House. The Edible Utopia project at Somerset House includes growing mushrooms in our coalholes around the courtyard. A number of these small alcoves originally used for housing coal, then for general storage have been converted into the perfect environment in which to grow mushrooms.
Using waste coffee grounds from our on-site cafés as nutrients we nurture the mycelium from spawn through to fruiting in an organic closed-loop eco system as an example of sustainable growing in the city centre.
Part of the master class will include the opportunity to take a live guided tour of one of the coalholes, to learn more about the system and to see what is going on down there.
There are limited spaces available for this master class. For more information or to get your ticket please follow the link.
