Sons of the Never Wrong
Sons of the Never Wrong are a folk trio from Chicago whose fabric is woven from Bruce Roper, Deborah Lader, and Sue Demel. They've been creating "turbo-charged" folk music since 1992 to a cult-like national following. We're delighted to have them back for a second visit.
The band formed when Demel and former bandmate Nancy Walker heard Bruce Roper performing his quirky, poetic style of songwriting at a local club. The three singer/songwriters with backgrounds in rock (Nancy), folk (Bruce), and jazz (Sue) instantly sensed that there was magic in their mix.
Their work is decidedly eclectic. Their diverse backgrounds, witty song crafting, and 3-part harmony that swirls in and out help distinguish them from most other folk music you've heard...and we mean that in a good way.
Deborah Lader replaced Walker in 1998 and infused her own clever writing, expressive voice, and bluegrass/Celtic influences. Roper is the primary songwriter, plays acoustic guitar, and sings. Demel adds original songs and performs vocal acrobatics while playing djembe and dulcimer. And Lader delights with her flair for banjo, mandolin, guitar, and rich alto harmonies.
Oh, yes. You want to come for this one. And when you do come, prepare to be blown away. The person who invented music must have had something like this in mind. Oct. 25 in MacLeish Hall (gym) at the Lake Street Church.
