Turtle Island Quartet
Since its inception in 1985, the TIQ has been a singular force in creating bold, new trends in chamber music for strings - striking a balance between the emotional immediacy of jazz and the brilliant conceptualization of classical music. This performance - The Art of the Groove - defines a TIQ concert - with driving rhythms, explosive harmonies, and staggering improvisation. Composers may include John Coltrane, Chick Corea, and Paquito D'Rivera. It will also feature music of TIQ's founder, David Balakrishnan, which integrates jazz, western classical, American fiddle styles, rock, rhythm & blues, Latin American and Indian classical music.
