Experience Level: All

This 2-hour session is for anyonebeginners or experienced writerswho love romantic comedies and want to write one of their own. Students will learn how to test an original idea, the beats that complete the story structure, and how to avoid the common pitfalls and tropes of the genre. We will use break-out rooms to enable participants to have small group conversations. Let us help you write your rom-com ... because nobody puts rom-coms in a corner!

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN:
How to identify the essential rom-com elements and markets
How to write a logline and title for your romantic comedy
How to craft a beat sheet to map out your rom-com
How to strengthen your rom-com by avoiding common pitfalls
How to use your logline and title to pitch your idea

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
We love romantic comedies! Heather Hughes and Kate Wharton have been writing comedy scripts together for over 12 years and have worked with Disney, Hallmark, and Lifetime, as well as a plethora of local indie filmmakers. They are represented by The Nethercott Agency in Los Angeles. They are both graduates of TheFilmSchool in Seattle and studied with the late, great Blake Snyder (author of Save the Cat.)  They love comedies of all forms, but have a star-crossed love of rom-coms. They complete us.
