Social Distancing, Not Social Isolation (Webinar on May 14, 2020 at 10am)
Lombard Mennonite Peace Center: will present Social Distancing, Not Social Isolation: A Family Systems Perspective in an online format. This 90-minute webinar will help church leaders reach out in compassion to those who suffer from the "radical aloneness" that often results from social distancing. Such feelings of isolation can have a debilitating effect on many people, with both psychological and physiological implications. Among the highlights:
1) This webinar will place the current challenge of social distancing within the context of Bowen family systems theory.
2) Participants will be introduced to the research on loneliness pioneered by John Cacioppo as a lens for further understanding of the challenges posed by the current pandemic.
3) Participants will be invited to reflect on how this time of social distancing can be utilized to facilitate life-giving connections with others.
4) Input will also be provided on the unique role that the church can play to help overcome the potential loneliness of social distancing.
