Shape-note singing has been part of American music for more than two centuries. Instead of reading music by the placement of the notes on the staff, shape-note singers sound out the tune by reading the shapes of the notes. In this performance, the Chorale explores the American shape-note traditions of Northern and Southern Harmony.
