A Man of Contrast: The Music of Sir Paul McCartney
The Easton Choral Arts Society conducted under the artistic direction of Wes Lockfaw, will be performing the Eastern Shore premier of Sir Paul McCartney's classical oratorio, Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart) inspired by his wife Linda. Ecce Cor Meum is the fourth classical composition created by Sir Paul McCartney. The music is full of color and drama and, of course, a wealth of glorious melody for which Paul McCartney is so well known. The work is an oratorio, written in the style of sacred English choral music, and composed in four movements. It is scored for orchestra, a soprano and mixed choir. The oratorio was commissioned by Magdalen College, Oxford to commemorate its new concert hall. Instead of composing music to fit the text, Sir Paul reversed the usual procedure by writing the music and then adding the text to it. This hour-long piece transcends itself to become something greater as the the poetic beauty of Ecce Cor Meum's arrangements serves to elevate McCartney's prosaic lyricism. The chori will also be singing some of McCartney's all time favorites. If you are a Beatles fan, you won't want to miss this concert filled with musical treasures.
