In The Spirit
In The Spirit is a unique collaboration between Venus DeMars and The BAND Group, which examines Ms. DeMars' decades long journey, her personal trials and struggles, and those that influenced her along the way as a pioneering trans glam-rock icon. Written by Artistic Director Adrian Lopez-Balbontin, with music by Ms. DeMars, In The Spirit is a hybrid rock show and surreal tale of Voice (played by Ms. DeMars) as she discovers she is in a feedback loop of her life while all taking place in the early 90's in an abandoned warehouse that will be the location for her band's possible final performance. Starring along Ms. DeMars is a cast and band is entirely transgender or nonbinary featuring Jex Arzayus, Kjer Whiting, Bri Patnode, Jolie Hassler, Jeff Miller, Hannah Stein, with Susanna Sweet on lead guitar, Shannon Van der Rek on bass, and Beth Varela on drums. All members in the company will play roles in the production. The production will be directed by Mr. Lopez-Balbontin.
