Newport Art Deco Weekend 2022!
Experience the Newport mansions in the age of the 1920s to 1940s at the 5th annual Newport Art Deco Weekend! This event takes place at Salve Regina University's Fairlawn Estate (aka Pell Center/Young Building). This beautiful estate was built in the 1850s and used as a private residence for most of its life until being converted for school and college use. With grand ballrooms and a vast lawn on Bellevue Ave, it is the perfect place to experience life in the art deco age. Period style outfits are suggested but not required.
Our theme for this year is "Classic Cinema of the Art Deco Period". All day well have special movie themed activities and classes. Our dance instructors for the event will be the famous Roddy and Gretchen from NYC! At noon we take a break to enjoy a grand picnic on the lawn. Take your picture by the gorgeous scenery which may include vintage autos. In the evening, get ready for your closeup as we stroll the red carpet to the Black-Tie Ball. Just be careful of all that paparazzi which is to be expected at the entrance! Headlining the evening is the one and only "Michael Arenella and the Dreamland Orchestra Quintet". Cash bar provided, and during the band break we will be having a contest to show us your best vintage celebrity costume/impersonation for fantastic prizes!
