Saul and Elena
Lifelong musical artists Saul Rayo and Elena Powell, both accomplished songwriters in their own right, have teamed up to perform what they call their Reel Music for the Soul.
Together they bring their open love for each other and their individual artistic talents to what is far more than a musical experience for their audiences. The music is both raw and refined, soulful and heady, and completely visceral. For example, on a song, Rayo lays down a heavy acoustic groove and Powell plays a horn-like violin part against it, creating a kinetic tension that is clearly palpable; then the intense and political lyrics begin. On another, Powell plays acoustic fingerpicked guitar, singing counterpoint, and Rayo solos with his slide guitar. With their unique interwoven harmonies and arrangements they truly dance among the musical genres.

Onstage, the two are funny, cracking jokes at each others' expense, and yet are also openly loving. Often, they tell stories about themselves and their journey of coming together as well as stories about the songs they write.
Saul and Elena inspire many in their community and beyond, and are admired for their musical creations together: a rare "musical marriage."
