Psychotronic Film Society presents: "RECORDER: The Marion Stokes Project" - New FIRST-RUN FILM SERIES!
The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah and Knocked Out Loaded Concerts are THRILLED to present the Exclusive Regional Premiere of a phenomenal new documentary on one of the most important (and least-known) African-American figures of the past 100 years.

From 1977 till her death in 2012, Marion Stokes, a Philadelphia-based political activist, civil rights protestor, librarian and compulsive-hoarder-turned-amateur-archivist ardently videotaped several 24-hour TV news networks around the clock, using 8 different VHS recorders.

The result? A treasure trove of over 70,000 HOURS WORTH of American broadcast and cable television -- most of which has never been shown or seen since it was aired live.

Marion Stokes' homemade library of American TV news is the SINGLE LARGEST AND MOST COMPLETE TV ARCHIVE OF ITS KIND ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

Now, for the first-time ever, filmmakers were given access to this massive vault of historic programming, as well as rare interview footage with Marion herself, and candid, never-before-seen interviews with her friends and family.

This AMAZING true-life story is a MUST-SEE for fans of adventurous cinema, and for ANYONE interested in the changing morality, politics and popular culture of the USA.

"RECORDER" premiered at the TRIBECA FILM FEST, where it was nominated for BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE.

A New York Times "Critic's Pick," it is ONLY playing in theaters, and this will be its ONLY local public screening.

This Sunday night show at THE SENTIENT BEAN COFFEESHOP kicks off the Psychotronic Film Society's new FIRST-RUN FILM SERIES AT THE BEAN, where we'll offer one-show-only engagements of BRAND-NEW, critically-acclaimed movies which would otherwise not play here in town.

This FIRST-RUN FILM SERIES is generously sponsored by the good people at CONNECT SAVANNAH and takes place at 8PM on Sunday, Feb. 16.

NOTE: While we are holding a small number of seats for sale at the door, there will likely be significant demand for tickets to this Premiere Screening, so we HIGHLY ENCOURAGE purchasing your tickets in advance online through this page.

WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING:

Reveals the secret greatness of a reclusive activist... An information revolutionary, Stokes, despite her decades of isolation, touched the nerve center of the times.
    Richard Brody, THE NEW YORKER

Matt Wolfs remarkable Recorder uses Stokes recording obsession as a way to explore both Stokes herself and the world she literally committed to video tape. The results are fascinating, weird, and often quite moving.
    Kate Erbland, INDIEWIRE

Intriguing from first minute to last... Relating this stranger-than-fiction tale with the narrative twists and turns of a well-paced thriller, Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project will make news junkies feel a lot better about themselves... A fascinatingly oddball story.
    Frank Scheck, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
