2020 Chicago Blues Camp Keyboard Class
Chicago Blues Camp is a unique 5-day immersive learning and performance opportunity for musicians 22 and older to learn and play authentic Chicago Blues with leading blues performers. Chicago Blues Camp is held May 31 June 4, 2020, the week prior to the Chicago Blues Festival. Learn Chicago Blues keyboard from the Chicago Blues Master Brother John Kattke.
As Rolling Stone Magazine says:
For more than a quarter of a century Brother John has scoured the clubs of the city, taking turns on guitar or keyboards, when hes not directing studio horn arrangements or playing keyboards on some albums, such as the latest Toronzo Cannon release, The Chicago Way. Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Matt Murphy, Junior Wells, he accompanied them all at a time or another.
In this class you will apply these concept to 16 Chicago Blues Standards individually and as part of an ensemble:
-->Scale and chord theory -->Standard blues chord progressions, enharmonic rhythm -->Song form concepts (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, endings, etc) -->Left and rhythmic patterns and right hand independence -->Chord inversions and voicings -->Patterns or parts (rhythmic figures) vs. improvisation -->Piano as a percussive rhythm instrumental vs organ sounds/tone/approach -->Ear training to find your ideal part in an ensemble -->Pentatonic scales and advanced melodic concepts -->Single note melodies, octaves, harmony in thirds or sixths, Full chordal melodies
