Intro to Herbal Medicine (Live Virtual Class on Zoom)
This class is a thorough and practical crash course in the practicalities of using herbs as medicine. We will start with an introduction about why herbs work, what they can and cant do, where to get them and what preparations they come in. We will highlight six common and useful herbs as we discuss different aspects of understanding their uses. We'll also cover the ins and outs of safety and working with symptoms versus underlying causes. Finally we'll discuss good resources for further learning. By the end of the class, you will have a working knowledge of six herbs, as well as a framework to understand how herbs are working and how to select herbs for maximum benefit.

Learning this type of foundational knowledge will help you get better success with herbs, and use them with more intention and awareness. If you've ever been frustrated with books telling you that an herb is "good for headaches," then this class might help you get beyond such oversimplification and begin to understand the complexities of our bodies.

Bring a notebook, come with questions, and be ready to learn. Natalie is a fast-paced teacher, and she likes to cover as much as possible in the time.

ZOOM CLASSES

Due to social distancing measures and potential shelter in place orders, I have decided to offer some virtual classes to keep us all from going crazy. Im sure this is a new platform for some of you, so heres all the info you need to join in!

How to join Zoom:
We will be using Zoom for this class. You will need to download the software on your computer or phone. You can do this before the class by visiting this link: https://zoom.us/ . Creating an account is free!

How to join the zoom call:
I will send you a link to the scheduled conference call to the email you provide at registration. When its time for class, you will follow that link (having already created your zoom account) and join the call. You may join with just audio, or just video. The call will start 10 minutes prior to the start of class so we can get settled in and technical difficulties worked out. I recommend using something with audio and video capabilities (phones or laptop computers work well).

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

Natalie runs the Adiantum School of Plant Medicine, a local herb school in Seattle, where she teaches classes on plant ID, medicine making, and holistic herbalism. She has spent several years acquiring and synthesizing knowledge about Western Herbalism, PNW Materia Medica, nutrition, and Chinese Medicine. She is particularly passionate about traditional assessment techniques, the effects of emotions on the physical body, and holistic models of understanding imbalance. She also loves to forage and grow medicinal plants of all kinds, because cultivating a direct relationship with the living plant is not only educational but very healing. All in all, she is an empiricist at heart who loves experimentation and exploration into the possibilities of nourishing and strengthening our bodies and souls. As a teacher, Natalie is flexible, engaging and multi-sensory. She has extensive teaching experience, and is always looking for ways to keep things fresh and exciting.
