Jackie Allen, vocal
Ben Lewis, piano
Hans Sturm, bass
Dane Richeson, percussion
Jackie Allen is no stranger to Chicago audiences. While living here she performed at all the major venues and launched her stellar recording career, releasing work for Lake Shore Jazz, Naxos Jazz, A440, Red Mark, Blue Note Records and others. She has performed worldwide and when I looked at a list of the places she has appeared I realized it might be easier to list the places she HASN'T performed. One of those few places is Studio5 ... yet. Jackie and her husband (bassist/composer Hans Sturm) now live in Lincoln, Nebraska, and I am beyond delighted that Jackie has chosen Studio5 as a stop while she's back visiting the Windy City. She and Hans will be joined by one of our favorite pianists, Ben Lewis, and the extraordinary drummer/percussionist, Dane Richeson. This promises to be a truly special evening.
Jackie is perhaps best known for interpretations of classic jazz ballads ("bringing out the beauty of the lyrics" -Scott Yannow, All Music Guide) and transformation of contemporary tunes ("her gift with more pop-oriented material is utterly distinctive and even innovative, since there isn't another singer out there who phrases like her" -Thom Jurek, All Music Guide).
We'll be recording this performance for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB, so you'll be part of the studio audience! See you there. -SR
