A night of warm hearted camaraderie and beautiful song craft awaits those who head to the Lizard Lounge tonight.  Fresh on the heel of her excellent new CD "Into The Dark" Laura Cortese and her all star band anchor the night with songstress extraordinaire RACHEL RIES opening.

This incredible array of musicians is sure to lead to some indelible musical moments as well as unexpected surprises.  Do not miss this show!

The first moments of Laura Cortese's Into the Dark are quiet: a fiddle drones, a cello purrs--and then Cortese begins to sing. There is nothing timid about her. Even in her most delicate moments, she projects power and poise. There is a sense, in that first number, that she might snap those fiddle strings or punch a hole in the bass drum. In the end, restraint reigns, but not before Cortese has laid the groundwork for an album that is as bold as it is elegant.

Rachel Ries: Classically trained in voice, piano, violin and viola, Rachel marries sophisticated, at times vintage, musicality to smart lyrics. With a self-taught guitar style reminiscent of Mississippi John Hurt and vocals that at times recall Billie Holiday and early Maria Muldaur, her songs range from the romantic simplicity of jazz standards to the distilled intensity of poet Anne Sexton. Ms. Ries has an adventurous ear for melody and a voice flexible enough to accomplish it.
