CHATHAM ~ LIBANA CD Release Concert!
Internationally renowned world music and dance ensemble Libana returns to Cape Cod with a performance celebrating the release of their new CD Through the Darkness featuring music dedicated to our beloved Earth.
This concert will highlight the contemplative rounds and chants included on Libana's new (and tenth) recording Through the Darkness ~ Songs of the Winter Solstice and beyond . . . in addition to music from around the globe honoring our connection to the natural world.
Since 1979, Libana has illuminated the creativity, vision and spirit of women worldwide. Riveting, transformational and soul stirring, Libana takes audiences on a musical journey reflecting the universal human experience uniting us all. From ancient traditions to contemporary creations, from the political to the spiritual, Libana's global repertoire covers a vast musical spectrum expressed with stunning a cappella vocals and an impressive palette of instruments. In 1979, a group of women sharing a passion for international music, dance, and women's issues formed the global music ensemble Libana. Inspired by Judy Chicago's groundbreaking exhibit "The Dinner Party," Libana took their name from a woman honored by the artist--a 10th century Moorish poet, philosopher, and musician--symbolizing women's creativity, vision and spirit throughout time.
Libana's ten recordings and three songbooks have inspired the formation and the repertoires of song circles and choruses around the globe, and their music and performances have kindled a sense of joy, strength, healing and empowerment in generations of listeners.
From Maine to California, Wyoming to Florida, Ontario to Nova Scotia -- and from Bulgaria to Greece and India to Morocco! Libana has traversed the globe for four decades celebrating the world's women. Libana believes deeply in the power of song, the rhythm of the drum, and the spirit of dance to connect people across vast cultural difference.
