The HAYLOFT at Dragonfly Barn Songwriter Showcase
Sunday, April 19, 2020
Doors open at 6:00 pm, Show starts promptly at 6:30 pm

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Join Denny Breau and Bruce Marshall, two world class singer songwriter guitarists, as they host this exciting new monthly series. The duo will bring talented guests to the Hayloft stage who are accomplished songwriters and performers in a wide variety of styles and instrumentation. Bruce will open then bring up Denny Breau for a solo set. After a short break, the feature artist will perform. How the night will end is anyone's guess. The magic of impromptu collaborations frequently dominate the last set!

DENNY BREAU - www.dennybreau.com

Denny is a triple threat: a consummate picker, evocative songwriter, and a singer with a  voice that is warm and inviting but completely unpretentious much like the singer himself, according to Lucky Clark. Mainers have long considered Denny a must see, but they are happy to share a favorite son with those from away.

BRUCE MARSHALL - www.brucemarshall.com

Bruce Marshall's music career spans five decades and the singer-songwriter, guitarist has been a full time musician his entire adult life.  With an affinity early on for blues, rock and 60's pop, he honed his chops in the gin mills of NE and put out his first records in '87. He went to National with guitarist Toy Caldwell in '89, touring the US with Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

FEATURE ARTISTS

RUPERT WATES - https://rupertwatesmusic.com/

Rupert Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. He has been a full time songwriter since the late 1990s, when he signed a publishing contract with Eaton Music Limited.  In London he worked with some of the best performers in the city.  Moving in 2001 to Paris, Wates formed his own quartet and began playing live regularly. In fall 2006 he came to the US. He is now based in New York City and Colorado.  Since coming to the US, he has won more than 40 songwriting and performing awards (www.rupertwatesmusic.com/awards).

His music is an eclectic mix of acoustic, melodic art/folk, with flavors of jazz, vaudeville and cabaret. He has released nine solo CDs. They have received outstanding reviews in the international online press and tracks from them have been played on radio all over the world. In addition, Wates' songs have been covered by other artists in the UK, Canada and the US. Two full length tribute CDs to his material have been recorded: 'Crazy Puzzle' (2015) by Nashville-based performer Roxie Rogers, and 'Wide Open Heart' (July 2017) by Los Angeles vocalist Susan Kohler. Both these CDs were initiated and funded entirely by the artists themselves, and comprise exclusively songs taken from Rupert Wates' back catalog.

Of his latest CD release, "Full Circle" (January 2019), Rupert writes,  "This CD is a return to my roots  hence the title.  It features just my voice and my guitar, recorded live, with no overdubs, and mostly in one take.  Its intended partly as a form of homage to the artists I grew up listening to  among them Leo Kottke, John Martyn, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake  who have made me the musician I am today.  I hope its a worthy continuation of the fire they first set ablaze in me."

"An album to be treasured" 'His guitar playing is as good as it gets, matched by his skill as a songwriter...He is a brilliant lyricist with the ability to paint pictures in the listener's mind with subtle brushstrokes, all accompanied by some wonderful fingerstyle acoustic guitar work...'Ballad Of A Brown Eyed Girl' is a typical example of Rupert's outstanding musical skill and talent...All in all, this is an album that deserves to be treasured...'
