EUGENE DRUCKER: To connect musical notes in recognizable, memorable patterns is perhaps one of humanitys most basic aesthetic impulses. As performers we try to give voice to the composers creations, to reach out to our audiences. Music is for us primarily a means of communication: it is socially inclusive because it requires of all involved an openness to the sound-world of each piece, with its rhythms, colors and currents of feeling. The solitude in which these great composers shaped their visions casts its spell over the hall. Everyone is alone, yet together at the same time. Listeners are pulled into that quiet, sometimes painful, sometimes blissful space the music has created within us.
