"Selfie Songs" with Rembert Block
SELFIE! The Musical begins as an exploration of the meaning and history of the selfie phenomenon and ends up as an examination on the meaning of the Self. An investigation in song, by Rembert Block performed by Rembert & the Basic Goodness.
A rash of selfiecides arouse the attention of the godswhat are those crazy humans doing to themselves now?! Fascinated, the gods set up a super secret purgatory-based laboratory where they observe and investigate a small sample of humans who have killed themselves taking selfies, in an attempt to understand the cultural and psychological currents underlying this new epidemic...do they figure anything out? Will their findings shed any light on the human condition? Are there better filters in heaven?
A decidedly analog show about a seemingly digital morass.

Rembert & the Basic Goodness is a Brooklyn-based cabaret-pop band known for its originality, sophistication and humor. Blocks intensely vivid, psychologically oriented poetry is offset by her charmingly catchy, rhythmically surprising melodies. Each band member brings their unique quirky virtuosity to the songs, creating an original, organic and dramatic sound.
Their debut record Stay Plastic was recorded and produced by Mike Fornatale and released April 2018.
Selfie! The Musical will debut at the Vortex Theater in Austin, TX March 26-April 4, 2020
