A writer of politically engaged Modernist theatre music, Kurt Weill emigrated to the United States in 1935 after fleeing Nazi Germany. He assimilated with striking adeptness the lighter, more melodic style of American musicals and created some of the most popular and daring musical theatre of his day.
With a combination of enthusiasm, passion, and a sense of humor, radio personality and author Michael Lasser, singer Cindy Miller, and pianist Alan Jones offer a tour through the Broadway songs of this distinctive musical chameleon who worked with a remarkable group of lyricistsfrom Ira Gershwin and Alan Jay Lerner to poet Langston Hughes and playwright Maxwell Anderson.
