Set amidst the radical social change of the '60s and '70s, DREAMGIRLS follows the struggles and successes of a fictional, black female R&B group, the Dreamettes. As the women face racial discrimination, rampant misogyny, and manipulation by the male-dominated and fiercely-competitive music industry, they fight their way up the ladder of success and achieve their dreams. A riveting musical filled with powerful vocals; this inspiriting story of female empowerment is as entertaining as it is timely.
