Spooky Flutes - Lutheran Church in the Foothills
Song of the Angels Flute Orchestra proudly presents their October Spooky Flutes Concert featuring flute soloist Frederick Staff and guest conductor Shaul Ben-Meir. The SOA Orchestra is made up entirely of flutes, from piccolos to extremely rare double contrabass flutes. This combination of instruments creates a full, rich and beautifully unique sound. Please don't miss this opportunity to see and hear these rare flutes!
Featured repertoire includes works by Anze Roman, Vic Mizzy, Johannes Brahms, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Joachim Raff, Ludwig van Beethoven, Kathleen Mayne, Ernesto Kohler, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Franz von Suppé. The orchestra is lead by esteemed conductor, composer and arranger Charles Fernandez. Guest conductor Shaul Ben-Meir - the incredibly talented flutist, arranger and conductor - will be leading the orchestra in his arrangements of Brahms "Allegro Energico Opus 98" and Von Suppé's "Poet and Peasant" Overture. The orchestra proudly joins featured soloist and group founder Frederick Staff for his heartfelt and masterful performance of Gluck's "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" and Saint-Saëns' "Odelette."
Comments from previous audience attendees include the following: "The music was beautiful and surprising ... It was the highlight of our summer!;" "A very special and rare experience" and "The sound of the orchestra was big, complex and very beautiful ... unlike anything I'd every heard before."
Local area flutist are encouraged to bring their flutes to join the group in their closing number of Vic Mizzy's theme song to the "Addams Family." Refreshments are included in the admission during our intermission where you will have an opportunity to meet the artists. Please join us for this Spooky Flutes celebratory concert!
