Événement

Driftwood Soldier w/ Hawthorn
Driftwood Soldier plays gutter-folk music, a proprietary blend of bittersweet ballads, crooked stories, and thumping blue rants on mandolin, bass guitar, and assorted junk foot-percussion. Their second full length album, Stay Ahead of the Wolf, will be released on October 18, 2019 and features production from Erin McKeown and a mix by Grammy winner Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Gaslight Anthem, Devil Makes Three).

Bassist Bobby Szafranski first lent his velvet touch to the back-handed poetry and full-throated ruckus of mandolin-wrestler Owen Lyman-Schmidts solo work in 2013. Since then the duo has been leapfrogging their way up and down the East coast bringing their unlikely sound to bars, living rooms, rooftops, and back alleys.

Scavengers Joy, Driftwood Soldiers 2015 debut, established that musical range for audiences everywhere, with two-thirds of the songs receiving radio play on dozens of radio stations around the country including WFUV, WNCW, and WXPN, where Bruce Warren called the duo a bluesy version of Nick Cave with a nod to Tom Waits.

In early 2017, they followed the breadth of Scavengers Joy with the focused intensity of Blessings & Blasphemy, a concept EP exploring the tension between spirituality and dogma by reinterpreting gospel traditionals alongside anti-religious originals.

With Stay Ahead of the Wolf on the way, Driftwood Soldier has an album that does full justice to their liver-shaking live show. Dont miss the chance to hear this new beast howl!

Working from the belief that tradition is made to evolve, the women of Hawthorn chart a creative course through Appalachian and Celtic roots to the present-day. Heather Scott and Taylor Holland craft songs with a weight that sits with you long after their audible presence fades (Red Line Roots). When they harmonize, the edges of their voices bleed together like watercolors on paper (WBUR). With a powerful vocal blend surrounded in old-time banjo, seascape guitar, and dreamy electric lines, Hawthorn is quickly claiming a place in the music of New England and beyond. Their second full-length album, Maggie Willow, is now available everywhere.
