Music at the Library: Taylor music group
$25 members, $35 guests
Na Fidleiri and the Taylor Festival Choir, led by founding artistic directors Mary and Rob Taylor, will perform a program entitled From the Lowcountry to the Old Country. This program, which the ensembles toured through Ireland in 2013 and is annually featured on SCETV, explores the influence of Celtic culture and music on the Lowcountry, and features music old and new in a one-hour concert. Familiar Irish tunes such as Fields of Athenry are heard alongside newly composed folk and classical pieces. One musical segment, entitled Irish in the Civil War, gives musical expression to one of Americas most poignant periods though tunes such as Oshoken Farewell, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, and Johnnys Gone for Soldier.
