Miro Sprague Trio
Miro Sprague is a pianist, composer, bandleader, and educator known for his inspiring creativity, dynamic and passionate performance style, and artistic versatility. Currently based in Los Angeles, Miro has been an active performer since the early 2000's, touring the United States, Europe, Japan, and the Middle East and performing at many of the world's top venues and festivals in settings ranging from solo piano to septet.

Miro leads his own trio and quintet, and is a member of the cooperative septet Holophonor. He has performed with many renowned artists including Wayne Shorter, Matt Wilson, Ingrid Jensen, Jerry Bergonzi, Houston Person, Greg Osby, Jerome Jennings, and Linda Oh, among others. Since 2015 he has been the pianist of choice for renowned vocalist Karrin Allyson, touring extensively with her throughout the U.S. and overseas and recording on her latest release Some Of That Sunshine. In addition to his work with Karrin, Miro has performed with many other vocalists including Dominique Eade, Kristin Berardi, Michael Mayo, Sara Gazarek, Michael Feinstein, Evelyn Harris, Samirah Evans, Claudia Schmidt and Moonlight Davis.

Miro has been featured on numerous recordings as both a leader and a sideman and in 2014 he released "Blue Dreaming" which features his original music and arrangements performed by Marty Jaffe, Eric Miller, Michael Zsoldos, and Paul Wiltgen, along with special guests Matt Wilson and Martin Wind. Miro is on the faculty of Interplay Jazz Camp and he has presented workshops at The Brooklyn Music Studio, and the Vermont Jazz Center.

Miro grew up in a musical family in Western Massachusetts and began playing the piano and composing in 1998 at age 13. In 2003 he moved to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Garry Dial, Jason Moran and Chris Rosenberg, among others. Miro graduated from MSM in 2008 and after several years of freelance work on the east coast, he moved to Los Angeles in 2012 to attend the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA (now the Herbie Hancock Institute). While at the institute he had the opportunity to study with many of the worlds greatest musicians, including Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Billy Childs, James Newton, and Hal Crook. Miro graduated from the Institute in 2014 and has since maintained a busy performance schedule on both the east and west coasts.

Miro Sprague is a very gifted young pianist. His lyrical and harmonic senses are beautiful and adventurous. Even though he has a great technical command of the instrument, his technique always serves the story that he is telling. I look for great things from him in the very near future.  Billy Childs, Grammy Award Winning Pianist and Composer.

Miro Sprague is among the most talented young composer/pianists of his generation. His grasp of harmonic complexity, subtle pianistic touch, and communication skills enable him to play the spectrum from traditional to free jazz, in settings from solo piano to ensembles of every size. I look forward to hearing more from him.  Armen Donelian, Pianist, Composer, Faculty, New School University Jazz Program

Miro is pure music to me. Imagination and intuition take the place of anything expected. He has a great sensitivity that shines.  Jerry Bergonzi, Saxophonist, Composer, Faculty, New England Conservatory

Certain jazz improvisers capture my attention when they play, and hold it from the beginning to the end of every performance. Pianist Miro Sprague is one of them. Hes welcome on my bandstand anytime. The only question I have is, am I welcome on his?  Hal Crook  Legendary Educator, Trombonist, Composer

One of the hippest and most mature of the newest generation of emerging giants.  Andy Jaffe  Pianist, Composer, Educator
