Blueridge Chamber Fest: Borealis String Quartet (Vancouver)
August 10, Orpheum Annex
**This program is also performed on August 9 at Presentation House Theatre**
The brilliant Borealis String Quartet is back at Blueridge with a stirring program of late romantic hits. Grieg's dramatic String Quartet and Elgar's soaring Piano Quintet highlight the group's trademark gutsy, glowing sound. Crowd-pleasing BC composer Imant Raminsh's expressive and exuberant third string quartet rounds out the program.

Hailed as "not afraid to take some pretty big chances," and an event where "musical excellence is assured," the Blueridge Chamber Music Festival offers innovative programming, dazzling artists, and unforgettable performances in a relaxed summer setting. Now celebrating its 10th season, Blueridge presents a dynamic professional concert series alongside a one-of-a-kind academy for gifted young musicians. The North Shore News calls it "not what people usually expect from a chamber music festival."
About the Borealis String Quartet:
One of the most dynamic and exciting world-class ensembles of its generation, the Borealis String Quartet has received
international acclaim for its fiery performances, passionate style, and refined musical interpretation. Founded in Vancouver, the Borealis has toured extensively in North America, Europe and Asia.
Exploring a synergy of classical, fusion, folk and world
music, the Borealis has recorded seven CDs which feature the
great classics as well as music written especially for them.
Although the Borealis feels strongly committed to the great
traditional quartet literature, they actively seek to promote new works and are strong advocates of Canadian music, with quartets by R. Murray Schafer, Omar Daniels, John Stetch and Peter Tiefenbach in their repertory. They have also worked closely with Bramwell Tovey, Imant Raminsh, Kelly-Marie Murphy, and John Oliver, to name a few.
The Borealis was the String Quartet-in-Residence at the University of British Columbia for over 10 years and Visiting Scholars at Green College from 2000-2004. They have also been the Quartet in Residence at numerous festivals and universities across North America, Mexico, Europe and Asia. Since 2012, the Borealis has been the String Quartet-in-Residence at the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy. They are currently the Quartet in Residence at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
