Night Smelt Trip
Night smelt fishing is a thrilling, rugged, wonderful, cardio vascular work out like you've never experienced. See the ocean at night. Marvel at the roar of the surf and the wind. Bask in the glow of the moonlight--and maybe catch some beautiful, shiny, delicious little fish! Fish that smell like fresh cut violets or, some say, cucumber!
This is not a tour for wimps! It requires some strength, balance and stamina. You may have to walk on the beach for up to a mile. Sometimes more. The gear is cumbersome and not light. There may be trails to ascend/descend. Sometimes they run and we catch a lot. Sometimes they don't run at all... and we catch nothing. I am not Poseidon and can not guarantee you will catch fish. That's why they call it fishing, not catching!
I am the only licensed guide in California who offers this type of fishing trip. I have the nets. And net bags. All you need is a headlamp, a pair of waders, and a bucket. If you have your own net bag, (for rinsing the fish afterwards) bring it.
Again, I provide the nets and net bags for free. Everything else is up to you. (See checklist below)
What are you waiting for?
Here's your checklist:
1. a valid California sport fishing license 2. waders 3. bucket 4. change of clothes 5. towel in case you get wet 6. warm clothes and windbreaker 7. headlamp 8. I have an extra net bag you can borrow, but if you have your own bring it.
