John Cages Sonatas and Interludes for solo prepared piano
Pianist/composer and Guggenheim Fellow Amy Williams performs Sonatas and Interludes, John Cages groundbreaking cycle for prepared piano. The work was composed in 194648, shortly after Cages introduction to Indian philosophy and the teachings of art historian Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, both of which became major influences on the composers later work. Sonatas and Interludes is generally recognized as one of Cages most important compositions.
