Larry Vuckovich Trio
Before the modern jazz piano trios of piano/bass/drums such as Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson and Hank Jones trio's, the original jazz piano trio included the combination of piano/guitar/bass. Nat King Cole popularized this format and at times Art Tatum also played in this combination. Vince Guaraldi's first recordings featured this style combo and the hard swinging pianist Wynton Kelly recorded in this combination with Kenny Burrell as well.

Larry Vuckovich is excited to bring this swinging jazz trio concept to the Tucker Farm Center in Calistoga featuring the outstanding Bay Area veteran Jeff Chambers on bass, and the young, new discovery on the guitar, Kai Lyons.

Pianist Larry Vuckovich has played and recorded with jazz greats Jon Hendricks, Mel Torme, Irene Kral, Joe Williams, and Bobby McFerrin among others. He has won acclaim from critics and jazz audiences for his deeply imaginative style and repertoire heard at prestigious North American and European jazz clubs, concert halls and festivals. He is as equally at home in world music and classically influenced modal jazz as he is in hard-swinging bebop, post-bop, contemporary jazz, and down-home blues. The New York Times notes that his unique outlook and collection of influences "set him apart from most pianists who are heard regularly in New York"."San Francisco pianist Larry Vuckovich has been an accompanist, bandleader and world-jazz pioneer over seven decades. His album Somethin' Special is exactly that. His playing sparkles with understated wit... He's telling a story... It's the work of a master." -Andrew Gilbert, columnist for San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, Jazz Times, Down Beat.

Kai Lyons is a 24 year old jazz guitarist born and raised in San Francisco, California. He completed high school with honors from Ruth Asawa School of the Arts under the direction of classical guitar educator Scott Cmiel. He attended William Paterson University on full scholarship, studying with Harold Mabern, Gene Bertoncini, Mulgrew Miller, Hal Galper, and Vincent Herring. In addition to his work with legendary pianist Larry Vuckovich, he has performed with Mike Clark (drummer for Herbie Hancock), Big Chief Donald Harrison Jr. (saxophonist for Art Blakey, Miles Davis, and Eddie Palmieri), Josh Jones (drummer for Steve Coleman and Don Cherry), Sylvia Cuenca (drummer for Clark Terry), and Sandy Perez (percussionist for Steve Coleman and Afrocuba de Matanzas). In 2018, he participated in a two-week cultural-immersion training with the Ewe in Dzodze, Ghana. He continues to travel throughout the African diasporaCuba, Haiti, New Orleans, New York, etc.; and recently completed his first successful international tour with the Bay Area jazz-fusion band Illy Bogart. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Performance from San Francisco State University. You can follow his adventures on Instagram at @kailyonsadventurechannel

Talented and versatile bassist, Jeff Chambers is known for his impeccable timing, dynamic rhythms and improvisational dexterity. Chambers began his career in Milwaukee with the renowned pianist and vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery. In 1978, he left the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and entered the "University of Buddy Montgomery", touring extensively with the master. Since then, Chambers has toured all over the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, and Japan, performing with many of the world's most prominent jazz musicians. Known as one of the foremost bassists in the country, hes played with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Les McCann, Eddie Harris, Benny Carter, Tommy Flanagan, Joe Henderson, Dakota Staton, McCoy Tyner, & Joe Williams.
