Characters

Gomez Addams
Playing Age: 40-50
Caucasian male actor. A man of Spanish descent who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an Addams. He struggles with having to keep his daughters secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic actor with tenor vocals. Husband to Morticia, if indeed they are married at all... a crafty schemer, but also a jolly man in his own way... though sometimes misguided...sentimental and often puckish - optimistic, he has full enthusiasm for his dreadful plots... is sometimes seen in
a rather formal dressing gown.
Vocal Range: Tenor - B flat to G sharp

Uncle Fester (Addams)
Playing Age: 30-40
Caucasian male actor. The androgynous family member who serves as the musicals narrator. He is larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian with tenor vocals. Uncle Fester is incorrigible and except for the good nature of the family and the ignorance of the police, would ordinarily be under lock and key... the eyes are pig-like and deeply embedded... he likes to fish, but usually employs dynamite... he keeps falcons on the roof which he uses for hunting... his one costume, summer and
winter is a black great coat with an enormous collar... he is fat with pudgy little hands and feet.
Vocal Range: Tenor - C sharp to C sharp (preferably at belt)

Lucas Beineke
Playing Age: 18-24
Caucasian male, attractive, in shape young man. Fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family. Contemporary pop tenor vocals. Lucas is (for the most part), a fairly normal person. He writes poetry and is apparently a romantic. He also has a crazy and dark side, proven during "Crazier Than You". He also seems to believe in traditional things like getting his parents blessing before
getting married.
Vocal Range: Tenor - C sharp to C sharp

Pugsley Addams
Playing Age: 1014
Young Caucasian male actor. A charming, funny, husky boy who loves being tortured by his sister. He wants to ensure he wont lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands. Strong, high vocals. Voice not yet changed. An energetic monster of a boy ... and a dedicated troublemaker, in other words the kid next door... genius in his own way, he makes toy guillotines, full-size racks, threatens to poison
his sister, can turn himself into a Mr. Hyde with an ordinary chemical set... his voice is hoarse... is sometimes allowed an occasional cigar
Vocal Range: Tenor - A sharp to F sharp

Mal Beineke
Playing Age: 40-55
Caucasian male. Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family. Male actor with high baritone/ tenor vocals.
Vocal Range: Tenor - C sharp to A sharp

Lurch
Playing Age: 30-60
Caucasian male actor. A very tall male character, the Addams butler who knows all. He speaks in moans and groans without becoming a cartoon version of himself. His movement is always very slow Character actor with a low bass vocals.
Vocal Range: Bass - E flat to E sharp

Morticia Addams
Playing Age: 40-55
Caucasian woman, in shape, attractive, leggy, the strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a sexy, dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. A strong dancer/mover with alto/mezzo soprano vocals. The real head of the family... low-voiced, incisive and subtle, smiles are rare... ruined beauty... contemptuous and original and with fierce family loyalty... even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly... given to low-keyed rhapsodies about her garden of deadly nightshade, henbane and dwarf's hair...
Vocal Range: Alto - G sharp to B flat

Wednesday Addams
Playing Age: 16-21
Caucasian woman. Wednesday is an attractive, in shape girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. Finds love with a normal boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love. Lucas can actually put a smile on her face. Strong pop belt vocals. Child of woe is wane and delicate... sensitive and on the quiet side, she loves the picnics and outings to the underground caverns... a solemn child, prim in dress and, on the whole, pretty lost... secretive and imaginative, poetic, seems underprivileged and given to occasional tantrums... has six toes on one foot...
Vocal Range: Soprano - A sharp to E sharp

Alice Beineke
Playing Age: 30-40
Caucasian woman. Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. In shape, quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth. Comedic actress with soprano / belt vocals.
Vocal Range: Soprano - A flat to G sharp

Grandmama
Playing Age: 60-80
Caucasian woman. She is a feisty 102 year old woman. Fun and quirky, but dont mess with Grandma. Comedic actress with strong character vocals. This disrespectful old hag is the mother of Gomez... she willingly helps with the dishes, cheats at solitaire and is roughly dishonest... the complexion is dark, the hair is white and frizzy and uncombed... she has a light beard and a large mole... foolishly good-natured...fumbling, weak character... is easily fooled.
Vocal Range: Belt - G sharp to F sharp

The Addams Ancestors
All chorus members will be assigned an Addams Family Ancestor "character" and therefore have their own cameo character to play. Examples of the Ancestor characters are: Indian, Bride, Groom, Stewardess, Saloon Girl, Flapper, Pilgrim, Conquistador, Caveman, Cavewoman, Soldier, Sailor, etc. So there is definitely something in this show for everyone.
From the ensemble approximately 6 female and 4 male dancers will be picked out to be "featured dancers" and will be used more principally during at least 5 production numbers. Dancers who sing and have a fun, quirky sensibility. Knowledge of tango and flamenco dancing will be a plus.
