With new trio Moveable Mirror, Mahanthappa celebrates Sonny Rollinss legacy while exploring a bold new vehicle for expression.
Jaw-dropping one of the finest saxophonists going (Pitchfork), Rudresh Mahanthappa is a visionary artist, blending a masters touch on the alto saxophone with an exploratory compositional voice informed by the Carnatic musical traditions of his south Indian heritage. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Sonny Rollins landmark 1958 Blue Note trio album A Night at the Village Vanguard, Mahanthappa performs the music of Rollins and original compositions with his new trio project Moveable Mirror featuring longtime Branford Marsalis Quartet bassist Eric Revis and drummer Dave King of The Bad Plus.
