Concert featuring soprano Ann Moss and ZOFO
Composers, Inc. offers a single concert this season Tuesday, April 9 at Berkeley Piano Club. We present no fewer than nine pieces, representing the artistic directors of Composers, Inc. plus Ingrid Stölzel, winner of the Suzanne and Lee Ettelson Composers Award and Feona Lee Jones, winner of the Matthew Paul Finnigan Commission. Ingrid Stölzels lyrical songs titled The Gorgeous Nothings are settings of fragments by Emily Dickinson, while Feona Lee Joness experimental Galvanization of the Goddess uses her own text and extended vocal techniques. Expressly for this occasion Ursula Kwong-Brown has arranged her orchestral song Where the I Comes From for voice and piano, and Allen Shearer has set Ezra Pounds The River Merchants Wife, all to be sung by the incomparable Ann Moss. And there is much more: Ryan Reys Specular Reflections and Nick Vasallos tension-filled When the War Began are for mixed chamber ensembles; Frank La Rocca offers a cello solo Secret Thoughts performed by Jean-Michel Fonteneau, Emma Logan a new clarinet solo, and Robert Greenberg a piano duet written for ZOFO, who will premiere it at this gala event. Mark your calendars, and join us!
