Based on the true story of the relationship between
Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, the French neurologist &
teacher of Sigmund Freud, & his star patient. In
late 19th c. Paris, Augustine, a young kitchen maid,
suffers a seizure and is sent off to an all female
psychiatric hospital to be treated for the fashionable
malady "hysteria". Her illness and symptoms
intrigue the renowned Dr. Charcot, who hypnotizes
her in front of fellow doctors where she displays her
spectacular fits. The brilliant debut feature of director
Alice Winocour.
