Kiki, Contuzed, Maehym
Kiki UrHaz and Hazed and Contused are coming to The Pivot Center to spread there knowledge of derby. They have been coaching together for three years and both have a very unique style of coaching.
Kiki and Hazer will be coaching everything from pack work to agility. Saturday 9a-noon (12p-1p lunch) and 1p-4p with a scrimmage from 4p-6p. Blocker pack work and offense will be the focus on Saturday. We will work as a group and learn how to control and slow down your pack. We will learn everything from different ways to stop to the pressure of a wall. Lastly we will go over offense tactics and different ways to be effective at helping your jammer escape the pack.
On Sunday from 9a-12noon, jammer and agility will be the focus. We will go over new drills and effective ways to not only work alone at maneuvering out of walls but ways to work together and read your walls to best communicate intentions.
Hazed and Contused is going on her 5th season skating flat track derby. Starting at AZRD, she captained the Bad News Beaters who went on to be the first ever Arizona State Champions. After transferring to the Mad Rollin Dolls of Madison, Wisconsin, she took on the role of captaining the Quad Squad who was also victorious in the league Championship under her leadership. She now has a total of 3 league championships and one State championship under her leadership belt. As well as interleague play, Hazer has competed on highly competitive traveling All Star teams including the Tent City Terrors of Arizona and the Dairyland Dolls of Wisconsin.
Along with captaining, Hazer has many other coaching experiences including leading classes at the 2012 and 2013 Rollercon, coaching practices for Dublin, Belfast, Arizona, and various leagues around Wisconsin. Currently, she holds a role as the training manager for the Mad Rollin Dolls who have been in establishment for almost 10 years. Hazer strives on team building, mental game, strategy, and practice effectiveness. If there's a skill to be learned, there's a proper way to teach it, so that every skater can master it!
Kiki UrHaz has been skating for six years but when you see her you would think it has been for a lifetime. Kiki began her skating career in Kalamazoo Michigan as a member of the Killamazoo Derby Darlins. In 2010 Kiki decided to move to Arizona to pursue her dream of making roller derby her career. She skated with Arizona Roller Derby (AZRD) and the Tent City Terrors , Team Xtreme (a national co ed team), Team Bionic (a national bank track team), and the Wild West Outlaws (an all-female, South Western All-Star team). Kiki is the proud founder and was Captain of Hellazona (Arizona's All-Star co-ed team). She shares her passion and extensive knowledge of the sport by coaching the Phoenix Rattleskates (a men's All-Star Team). In April of 2013 Kiki transferred to Denver Roller Dolls in Denver Colorado where she skates as a Bad Apple as well as a member of the Mile High Club and is also part of the training team.
Kiki's coaching style highlights everything from a slow and disciplined style of play, to controlling the space around you, to pulling off more efficient and effective strategy while not necessarily having to work any harder. Kiki firmly believes that controlling your walls, staying together, and nonverbal communication are the fundamentals in derby that need to emphasized and re-emphasized often. Kiki brings along with her a refreshing way to re-examine the fundamentals that leagues typically teach to their skaters and will also assist you in evaluating how stable the foundation is that your league is being built upon.
