Since first meeting at Berklee in 2013, Magdalena Abrego and Allison Burik have cultivated their sound as a duo in a project titled Umbrella Pine. The two use alto saxophone, bass clarinet, electric guitar, and electronics to explore improvisational and compositional possibilities. They released their self-titled debut in 2015 and are currently at work on the follow-up.
Renowned 5-string violinist Mimi Rabson's Strings Theory Trio, also featuring fellow 5-string player Helen Sherrah-Davies and cellist Junko Fujiwara, plays at the "delicate and dangerous" intersection of chamber music and directed improvisation.
