Un delicado y conmovedor retrato de clase social, la ópera prima de Avilés cuenta la historia de Eveinterpretada por la maravillosa Gabriela Cartol (Sueño en otro idioma)una joven camarista que trabaja en uno de los hoteles más lujosos de la Ciudad de México y quien se enfrenta a la monotonía de sus largas jornadas de trabajo examinando sigilosamente pertenencias olvidadas y con nuevas amistades que nutren su recién descubierto y decidido sueño por una vida mejor. Inspirada en la obra teatral del mismo nombre de la cineasta, y a su vez inspirada en el proyecto artístico "El hotel" de Sophie Calle, en el que la artista francesa trabajó como camarera en un hotel de Venecia, La camarista es una destacada ópera prima de entre una pujante y nueva generación de mujeres cineastas mexicanas y latinoamericanas. Con una fotografía impecable, un ojo casi documental y una mirada humanista, la película pone a la realizadora Avilés como un talento al cual seguirle la pista.
