Festival of Women Composers - Unveiled: Women Writing for the Guitar
Poets such as Pablo Neruda and Federico García Lorca have linked the aesthetics of the guitar to the feminine figure. For centuries, while the feminine has been embedded in the essence of the instrument, its women players and composers have been obscured in the literature of the instrument.

In the past decades, strides have been made in unveiling the women in the story of the guitar. The music they have composed spans centuries, including both the modern instrument and its historical ancestors.

At this concert, classical guitarist Kathy Acosta Zavala showcases this music chronologically, unveiling figures such as Mademoiselle Bocquet (a 17th-century lute composer), Emilia Giuliani (a 19th-century guitarist and composer, and daughter of the revered composer Mauro Giuliani), Madame Sidney Pratten (a 19th-century guitarist and composer, who also authored a pedagogical guitar method), Ida Presti (a 20th-century French guitarist and composer known for her virtuosity), and Maria Luisa Anido (a 20th-century Argentinian composer).

This concert is co-hosted by the Grand Canyon Guitar Society.
