Event
Nicaragua Benefit Concert
Enjoy a night of great music as we raise money to support citizens of Nicaragua. (Funds in years past have gone to support a medical clinic, a well for fresh water, a school building, purchasing sewing machines and school buses). Doors open at 6pm, and the show begins at 7:00 with sets by Letitia VanSant and Elena & Los Fulanos.
Baltimore Magazine called Letitia VanSant "the Joan Baez of Baltimore" and BmoreArt calls her one of Baltimore's strongest songwriters. In 2017 she won several awards (Kerrville New Folk Winner, Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist, Baltimore Sun "30 Songs that Defined 2017"), and her song "Rising Tide" was voted among the most popular of the year by listeners of local radio station 89.7 WTMD, after the release of her debut album in 2012.
Elena & Los Fulanos is a bilingual folk rock band based in Washington, DC. Since 2011, they have been creating music that's from twangy, heartbreak-themed folk American, to soothing, introspective, violin-infused Latin rock. Influenced by front-woman Elena Lacayo's experience growing up in two cultures (Nicaraguan and American), Elena & Los Fulanos creates a world where language and tradition meld with catchy melodies and inventive chords to enhance appreciation for diversity in an increasingly multi-cultural world. Their debut album, Poisonous Honey, earned a Washington Area Music Association (WAMMIE) nomination for Best Latin Recording in 2014 and their second album Volcano, (2017) has been hailed as "a bilingual folk album for the resistance" by the Washington City Paper.
Sliding scale entry to event. Suggested price is $25, but pay as you can. If show does not sell out, tickets will be available at the door.
