Live at Studio5: THE LAST WORD
Marc Smith, poet Al Day, guitar/vocals Bob Long, piano Brian Gephart, saxophones Doug Lofstrom, bass
A band full of brilliant musicians teams up with the legendary FOUNDER of the poetry slam movement, performing jazz and poetry simultaneously. And you are thinking ... what? This ensemble performed at Studio5 once before, and prior to the event I wrote, "I am SO excited about this show ... and I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen." Well, I can tell you what happened. Gosh darned magic. That's what happened. I can think of many reasons it shouldn't have worked, but it did, and it was sublime. It remains one of my favorite events at Studio5. I immediately looked forward to their return to our stage. If you were there the first time you'll want to see it again, and if you missed it, now is your chance. Don't say I didn't tell you.
Join us. We'll be recording this performance both for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB and for a new live recording the band will be releasing, so you'll be part of the studio audience! See you there.
Cash bar, light snacks, free parking right outside. Doors open for cocktails at 7:30.
[NOTE: ONLINE TICKET SALES END ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. REMAINING TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.]
