Ben Philips' Scorpio Moon
On Friday, January 18, 2019 at 8:00PM, ALLJazz presents Scorpio Moon, a Chicago based jazz trio led by trumpeter and Madison native Ben Phillips, with Jakob Heinemann on the bass, and Lucas Gillan on the drums. The band plays Ben's moody and thoughtful compositions, but also draws on pop culture with tunes like 'Space Oddity' by David Bowie and music from Twin Peaks, among others. With Scorpio Moon, Ben aims to combine acoustic and electronic musical elements in a way that mirrors humanity living in the age of technology, and he accomplishes this by electrifying his trumpet using effects pedals to create otherworldly sounds that don't sound like they are coming from a trumpet. The result is a uniquely modern approach to playing uniquely American music.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. College/university/high school students receive a $5 discount on either price (valid student ID must be presented at the door - no exceptions). Advance tickets are available online until one hour before the performance. Doors open at 7:30PM.

The ALLJazz Series is sponsored in part by Alchemy and Dobhan Restaurants. Student discount made possible by Grant Samuelsen Real Estate.

About Ben Phillips
In addition to his work with Scorpio Moon, Ben also tours and records the Chicago based funk/soul band Bassel & the Supernaturals, led by Syrian-American singer and humanitarian Bassel Almadani. The band's aim is to raise awareness around the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria as well as to give Bassel a platform to talk about the Syrian-American experience in an effort to create unity at a time of unparalleled division. Their third studio album will be released in Spring 2019.
