Nourishment (Why Believe?)
Following the sold-out run of Nourishment (what does it feel like to grow up?) in Denver, CO in May 2018, Gwendolyn&Guests is thrilled to announce the world premiere of their new Nourishment production, centered on the question: Why Believe? Nourishment will premiere and run on February 8-10, 2019, at MOVE! in Lakewood, Colorado. Nourishment is an evening length performance experience aimed at provoking all five senses, through the collaboration of dance, live music, theater, storytelling, new media, set design, food and drinks.
This chapter of Nourishment delves into a myriad of questions and feelings surrounding belief, religion, afterlife, spirit and soul. When does belief divide us and when does it bring us together? In todays world as well as many other times in our history, it can seem that beliefs do more dividing than bringing together. Why Believe explores what it means to believe in something, what it feels like to lose faith, and if the act of believing even matters at all.
"Why Believe?" builds on Gwendolyn&Guests' mission of creating sensory and experiential performances. Immersed in a richly textured, polyphonic environment, audience members will participate in the construction of their experience, interacting actively with food, drink, projection designs, and set elements. "Why Believe?" probes the roles of individual agency, illusion, and knowledge in the formation of beliefs, the audience will be asked to consider and reconsider the choices they have made as active participants in the evening's performance. Ticket prices include two small bites, each paired with wine, beer, or spirits. Nourishment is committed to the theme of locality, and has teamed up with numerous local Denver/Boulder purveyors to honor our commitment of using companies who are local, organic, and working with sustainability.
Since the inception in 2015, Gwendolyn&Guests has developed, created, self-produced, and presented three evening-length productions as well as participated in multiple festival opportunities. Premiering and touring work in both NYC and Denver, Gwendolyn&Guests has worked with over 25 incredible collaborators in disciplines including dance, theater, music, visual arts, projections, new media, set design, lighting design, chefs, sommeliers, and craft cocktail artists. Receiving rave reviews and features by publications such as 303Magazine, Presenting Denver, The Stewardship Report, offoffoff, and others, critics have deemed Nourishment productions as profoundly tender and interdiscipliary, visceral, aloud and alive (Presenting Denver). Nourishment is directed by Gwendolyn Gussman, a Denver-bred, NYC-based Dance Artist and Creative Director who currently works with Sean Curran Company, Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance, Heidi Latsky Dance, Vanessa Walters Ripening, Roger C.
