1001
One thousand and one things we do to escape death. Monarch Shahryar discovered that his first wife was unfaithful to him, therefore resolving to marry a new virgin every day as he beheaded the previous days wife. This ensured that each new queen would be faithful to him and him alone. However, once he met wise, witty, and well-read Scheherazade, the Kings life was transformed forever. Seattle Collaborative Orchestras second concert series celebrates music with a twist. We perform both Rimsky-Korsakovs Scheherazade and Leanna Primianis world premiere 1001, a current day musical response to Rimsky-Korsakovs epic musical tale from Scheherazades perspective. Also on the program is Study for Orchestra, a mid-20th century composition by African American Guggenheim Fellow Julia Perry and Addison Kotulski who will perform the first movement of W.A Mozarts Horn Concerto No. 3 in Eb.
