EMILIA DAHLIN Sextet including Special Musical Guests: Sorcha Cribben-Merrill & Kate Beever
After almost two decades of performance as an award-winning singer-songwriter, EMILIA DAHLIN is experimenting with her sound and a new body of work by welcoming friends and instruments into the fold. She'll be joined by long-time bandmates: Adam Frederick (bass), Seth Kearns (drums), Max Cantlin (guitar) with the incredible addition of musicians/songwriters (and forces to be reckoned with): Kate Bever (vibes/percussion) and Sorcha Cribben-Merrill (guitar/voice).
In the past decade, Emilia traveled around the globe studying intentional communities, become a mother, and spent several years as a teaching artist. All these experiences inform her latest body of work. Expect artful lyrics and a full, rich tapestry of sound that pulls from roots music and vintage jazz while carrying a groove. One thing for certain, you know with Emilia Dahlin taking center stage this concert promises to be one of your favorites at Deertrees in Harrison for our 83rd Season.
EMILA DAHLIN: Wielding a voice that defies the size of her body and strong storytelling sensibilities, Emilia Dahlin has carved out her name as a unique songstress. She weaves mesmerizing tales (complete with Greek myths, robotic messiahs, epic floods, and tax evaders) with raw, rootsy folk and dynamic jazz vocals. Her well-crafted songs sound as if they've been left outside where time and weather have worn cracks for the wind to whip through. Her sky-rocketing energy is delivered with honesty.
SORCHA CRIBBEN-MERRILL: Sorcha composes stirring music steeped in blues, folk, jazz and soul. She graces stages throughout New England and beyond with her 'sultry, jazzy' voice of unexpected power and presence. "From haunting ballads to charming vignettes to funk grooves, her songs unveil a suite of musical styles that shows a wide-ranging songwriting ability. . . witty verses with smart rhymes." (Portland Phoenix)
KATE BEEVER: Originally from Gorham, Maine, Kate studied at the USM School of Music and then worked for Frank Glazer before moving to New York City. She is now a Board Certified Music Therapist with a Masters degree in Music Psychotherapy from New York University. While in New York, she interned at Beth Israel Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She returned to the fresh air of Maine to open Maine Music & Health. She works with clients of all ages with cancer, autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury, depression, developmental disabilities, dementia, and respiratory diseases. Kate presents at conferences and facilitates group and individual sessions while keeping an active performing schedule as a pianist and percussionist. She is also a trained REMO HealthRhythms facilitator and has her certification in Neurologic Music Therapy.
