THE OWLS by Cheryl Dunye

Two middle-aged, lesbian couples accidentally kill a younger lesbian and hide the body, without reporting it to the authorities. Their guilt and long-kept, dark secret comes back to haunt them, as an unexpected stranger shows up in their lives, bringing tension and discord. Little do they know that this mysterious stranger has a plan which includes all four of them. Starring the most popular underground artists in Lesbian Cinema: Guinevere Turner (The L WORD, AMERICAN PSYCHO), V.S. Brodie (GO FISH), Lisa Gornick (TICK TOCK LULLABY) and Deak Evgenikos (The ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE).

Cheryl Dunye has received numerous national and international honors for her work in the media arts.  Dunye wrote, directed and starred in her first film which was the first African American lesbian feature film, THE WATERMELON WOMAN. Based in Oakland, Dunye is an Associate Professor of Film , Diversity Studies and the Graduate Writing Programs at California College of the Arts.

C L E V E R Media Arts Think Tank, lead by renowned filmmaker Cheryl Dunye (THE WATERMELON WOMAN, STRANGER INSIDE), is dedicated to all bay area queers, women, and people of color in the media arts. With it's aim to keep artist and filmmakers informed connected and empowered, THE NEW PARKWAY presents the C L EV E R Screen -- a monthly screening series where we invite one of the Bay area's queer, woman, or person of color artist to pick a film that inspired them or screen their latest project with our audience.
