Coming Back Cinema Presents: Brazil
The already inventive Terry Gilliam hit his inventive high with 1985's surreal and hilarious sci-fi/fantasy film Brazil. Filled with more ideas in one scene than most movies have in their entire running time, Brazil feels like the work of a filmmaker both desperate to get every idea out of him before the studios take over and like a young kid unable to restrain himself creatively. Jonathan Price stars as Sam Lowry, a yes-man who seeks to right the wrong of a simple spelling error that has put an innocent man in jail. But that's basically the tip of the iceberg. Gilliam truly went all out on this film, making it hard to compare to anything else even to this day.
