8th Annual Deer Isle Jazz Festival: Donald Harrison Quartet
The annual Deer Isle Jazz Festival returns in its 8th year with a special edition: New Orleans- Culture, Crisis, Community. On Thursday, July 24, the Opera House is showing All on a Mardi Gras Day, a film by Royce Osborne at 7 pm.
On Friday, July 25, the Opera House will be hosting a panel discussion: New Orleans: Culture, Crisis, and Community, with Larry Blumenfeld, Donald Harrison, and members of the Hot 8 Brass Band (Box supper is available by reservation). Following that at 7 pm is the Donald Harrison Quartet in concert (this event). Note: the saxophonist and Mardi Gras Indian Chief Harrison will be in residence at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts from July 13-August 1, and the festival will include an exhibit of his original Mardi Gras Indian costumes.
Saturday, July 26 at 1 pm, the Hot 8 will host a clinic at the Opera House. That evening at 7 is the Hot 8 Brass Band concert.
On Sunday, July 27, the Hot 8 will lead a traditional second line parade down Main Street Stonington beginning at noon. Attendance is free, and all are invited to play along, dance, come and watch.
