Songwriter Circle: Cal Scott and Richard Moore with guest Kathryn Claire
Songwriter Circle: Cal Scott and Richard Moore with special guest Kathryn Claire
Monday, June 3, 7:00pm O'Connor's Vault 7850 S.W. Capitol Hwy
Cal Scott and Richard Moore welcome singer-songwriter Kathryn Claire to their bi-monthly circle at O'Connor's Vault in Multnomah Village, Monday, June 3 at 7:00pm.
Classically trained on the violin, Kathryn Claire added the guitar to her instrumental arsenal and employs both as a foundation for her compelling voice and intriguing songs. She's been busy performing around the Northwest, and the Far East (Japan) with multi-instrumentalist Hanz Araki. Our last show with Kathryn, in February 2012, was a sellout. Here are some other opinions from around the region:
Claire's tunes bridge a personal presence with traditional folk style, and solid contemporary acoustic guitar. Lyrical melodies, and a heart-full folk soprano reminiscent of Baez are a far cry from today's brand of effected acoustic emo pop -Hipfish, Astoria OR As she croons and caresses the lyrics, her versatility as a songstress shines. She belts out throaty, emotion-rich lines then soars effortlessly into bell-like harmonies. Some songs leave you with goose bumps; some grab your attention like streams of sunlight breaking through clouds; others caress and push you the way wind bends branches.

Swapping songs with Kathryn will be Cal Scott, jack-of-many-genres who writes and performs with The Trail Band and Kevin Burke, and the word-witty and tune-wise Richard Moore, likely to share more scenes from "Rain," his musical-in-the-works about Portland.
Discount advance tickets are $12 each from brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door. More information from Matt Miner at 503-484-8196 or mattminermusic@gmail.com.
