Bath Fringe Spiegeltent presents: Get The Blessing plus The Gas Giants
The Blessing boys have brought so many more influences into the mix since their Ornette-inspired early days - you can hear Dub one moment, King Crimson the next, early blues the third - that they defy categorisation. The J word still has its place, tho', for the seat-of-the-pants exhilaration and energy that only improvisation brings. Best drummer in the country Mr Deamer, most recently of Radiohead, is expected to take up his stool tonight alongside Jake, Jim & Pete, maverick musical explorers all. Gas Giants' Tony Orrell is Deamer's only rival [friendly] for best drummer hereabouts status, and, along with fellow Giants Ross Hughes and Will Gregory, all are integral members of the same jazz-into-Portishead-into-art-music Bristol/Bath brotherhood as The Blessing. Will is of course better known as Bath's undisputed pop genius for his writing, playing, and sound design for Goldfrapp, but these anarchic & surrealist soundtrackers are fondly remembered by audiences in these parts and we're overjoyed that they're taking the jalopy out for another run
