Bath Fringe Spiegeltent Presents: Georgie Fame and Sons
If you hung out in the coolest London Clubs in, say, '64 - the Flamingo, The Scene, Kooks Kleek; Mod heaven, pre-fame Blues Boom - with the Beatles & The Stones & Princess Margaret, Georgie Fame was what you'd have been grooving to, jazzy R'n'B with a Caribbean tinge. Learning his trade playing to American Servicemen who'd bring him records they liked, this is a classic Brit Beat Boom story, and has stayed pretty much true to that since: there were the '60s hit singles, the TV series, but no major wrong turning, no supper-club circuit. Keeping his chops sharp playing organ and MDing with Van Morrison, founding the Rhythm Kings with Bill Wyman, singing with Big Bands, Georgie also has some history with Bath so we'll be on course for an intimate classic tonight.
