Incorporated as a volunteer non-profit organization in 1975, BDA's mission is: to educate the public to the unique contributions of artists of the African Diaspora within the American art scene through exhibitions, publications, television, and other media; to provide exposure and sales opportunities for artists of African descent, and to encourage youth of African descent in the practice, application, and appreciation of the arts. With a Board that is composed of artists and art enthusiasts from the Capital Region for over 30 years not only does BDA reach the Capital Region, it is represented nationally and internationally. BDA also supports an important aspect of its mission through its Emerging Artists and Summer Arts programs.

Aleathia Brown - Founder

Aleathia Brown is a distinguished visual artist and a native New Yorker. With over 22 years as a professional artist, Aleathia has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. Her works are in permanent collections and are recognized nationally and internationally by private patrons and organizations. Since 2006 Ms. Brown has been the Visual Arts Coordinator for the Harlem Arts Alliance. She has been a judge and speaker for a variety of contests and panels and she creates and produces artist development initiative workshops and lectures for students as well as career artist.


MAWU Studio
Katrina D Jeffries- CAO, Owner

Katrina D Jeffries is a visual artist and private art collections manager.  With a background in production and design in Theater, Film and Dance, Ms. Jeffries has a vast knowledge of the visual and performing arts. She founded MAWU Studio in 2002 as a private ceramic and jewelry studio in the Bronx.  Since leaving her Bronx location and returning to Brooklyn she has expanded her expertise to Art handling, Art Collections Management and is a performing arts consultant.  She also maintains a studio in Brooklyn where she creates art from paper that she makes by hand. Ms. Jeffries has taught classes and led workshops in private studios, classrooms and museums.


Doctors to Health, Inc.

Dr. Dorette Lewis-Senior is a board certified Naturopathic Physician licensed in the State of Connecticut who practices Naturopathy and Acupuncture. She was a registered nurse for several years working extensively in the field of Holistic Health & Wellness in various healthcare settings. She is the founder of Healing Streams Support Group for Women and The Superb Physicians Network. She has had multiple media appearances and radio interviews. Her practice focuses on women's health.

DRS2HEALTH (Doctors To Health) was founded in 2007 as the Registered Trade mark of Holistic Healthcare & Consultation, LLC which has been in operation since 2004. DRS2HEALTH  a unique brand in Natural Healthcare offers Naturopathic Medical Care in an office setting, Health and Wellness Products in its Natural Pharmacy, a Wellness Retreat & MedSpa in Jamaica and a Well-Being  Magazine, available online and in print. In addition, the brand sponsors two annual wellness showcases; the Healers Gala and a Community Wellness Day.

Wellington's Herbs and Spices, Inc.

Carolyn and Frederick Wellington are owners of Wellington's Herbs and Spices, Inc. Their company was started in 1999 when they retired from professional careers in the fields of Health Insurance Marketing and Higher Education and moved to the beautiful Catskill Mountain Region of New York State.
Their 45-acre farm with certified-organic fields sits on top a gently sloping hillside which commands a breath-taking view of the Schoharie Valley. Enjoy the aroma of their beautiful, landscaped herb and flower gardens,  wander the pristine grounds, tour the certified-organic fields, meditate on the banks of their tranquil ponds and to browse the fully stocked store for garden supplies, collectibles, imported teas, and tea accessories, herb and spice products, dried flowers and antiques. Light lunches are served daily their elegant tearoom.
